My dream home by Louise Palmer-Masterton

Ideal home by Explorer Explorer magazine print out a short interview with the founder of Camyoga - Louise Palmer-Masterton about what would Louise's dream home look like.

Where can people go to your yoga classes?

We're celebrating two years in our central Cambridge premises and we've just opened a new centre in Great Shelford where we run classes and our training school is based. We offer a range of classes from baby yoga and beginners to advanced and dynamic styles. We also have a corporate programme, offering stress management in the workplace and trying to change the way many people approach work.

If  you could have any home you liked what style would you want?

Uber modern as eco as possible, with lots of glass, light and plenty of open space. My husband and I have two children, a dog and two cats so our house is a permanent state of chaos but my yoga studious are immaculate. It would be perfect if I could have studio in my home. I'm also trained as a breath practitioner so space to do that would be fantastic.

What other rooms would you like?

A large indoor space for the children to run around and play in.

What about colours?

White and light colours are my preferrence. White is traditionally associated with spirituality, healing and supposedly doesn't absorb negative energy.

What luxury would you like?

I love to cook and entertain so a top of the range kitchen with gadgets would be a dream. I like the new retro look with pastel colours and seamless moulded worktops and splashbacks.

Benefits of Pregnancy and Baby Yoga

Pregnancy and Baby YogaIt is noticeable that women these days take great care of their bodies and in result, more and more women are looking for some sort of exercise during their pregnancy. Pregnancy Yoga as well as Baby Yoga have great impact not only on your fitness but it also brings other benefits to the mother as well as to the child. According to Norwegian study, hold in July 2012, women that take on some sort of exercise during the pregnancy are less likely to report pelvic girdle pain, low back pain and depression. Those who do Yoga during their pregnancy will also experience a great sense of well being, enhance their bonding with their child and will be able to approach birth more calmly and confidently.

Benefits of Baby Yoga are no less significant. Not only you’ll be able to enjoy ‘time out’ with your baby and gain better confidence in handling your baby, but Baby Yoga also plays an important role in child's own body awareness and thus faster physical development. Dr. Teri McCambridge, division director of sports medicine at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center said: “Having a child spend time on its tummy will improve upper body and neck strength so, the fact that parents are taking timeout of their day to put their baby in different position, will over time increase strength and development.’

As well as aiding your baby’s development, baby Yoga classes aim to strengthen and revitalize new mothers with gentle postnatal exercise integrated into the class.

If you'd like to experience the benefits of either Pregnancy or Baby Yoga yourself then come to any of our classes in Central Cambridge or Great Shelford Studio.

Pregnancy Yoga:

Tuesday 11.30-12.45 Great Shelford (Starting 5th November 2012)

Wednesday 11.30-12.45 Cambridge Central

Thursday 18.30-19.45 Great Shelford

We recommend that you start early in the pregnancy, 12-14 weeks being an ideal time, but starting later in pregnancy is better than not starting at all.

Baby Yoga:

Monday 11.30-12.45 Great Shelford (Starting 5th November 2012)

Tuesday 11.30-12.45 Cambridge Central

Favourite poses by Elma: the warriors

Warrior Pose These classic poses are the stable in any self-practice or class and are great to do every day. They work so well at the start of a practice because they get the whole body activated and the mind engaged. The three classic warriors and their many variations are great to start your standing asanas, great the morning or salute the end of the day.

The warrior poses are powerful postures, in Indian mythology. They recreate the deadly family quarrel in which Shiva’s wife Sati bursts into flames and dies when she renounces her family name and her husband avenges her death by creating a warrior to decapitate her father. Obviously these sorts of scenarios are not part of what we have to face in modern life but they tell us about the power of love humility and ego.  Following these postures, especially in sequence, works your arms, stabilises your balance and simultaneously stretches and engages your leg muscles.

See you soon,

The Camyoga Team

Meet our chef - Sam.

We have a new addition to our Camyoga team! Sam is our new chef who is now taking care of Dandelion cafe by making sure we always have something tasty, healthy and freshly made in our kitchen. I sat down with her for a quick interview to give you a brief introduction to our fantastic new chef :).

Welcome to the Camyoga team Sam! We are all very excited about you joining us! Can you tell us few things about yourself? Hi, I’ve lived and worked in Cambridge for the past 25 years. My working life started out very differently to being a vegetarian/ vegan chef. In previous incarnations I have worked for the City Council as their Environment officer and as a Cooperative development officer helping to set up Cooperarive businesses in and around Cambridge. When I am not being a busy mum of an active 11 year old and cooking, I am involved in volunteer food projects such as migrant support and sit on the National board for Housing Cooperatives. And for fun? swimming, dancing, cooking and the odd game of pool!!

When did you decide to start working as a chef? I decided that I would follow my dream of cooking after a particularly grueling programming lecture while at ARU doing a Masters in Computer science. Twelve years ago I started my own business Mouth Music, a veggie / vegan catering business operating out of Arjuna Wholefoods. While there we catered a wide range of fun events from festivals to weddings, business lunches and provided Arjuna with their takeaway menu.

What is your favorite recipe? That’s so difficult. It changes with the seasons and the years. Some of my customers’ favorites over the years have been the Chestnut mushroom and almond wellington and the chocolate expresso cheesecake, both vegan and both delicious.

How did you find your way to Camyoga? I closed my business Mouth Music last year and have since been focussing on private orders while looking for the next challenge. I have, for a while, been cooking soups for Camyoga, so was in the right place at the right time when the position of Cafe Coordinator became vacant.

What is your vision for Dandelion Cafe? Are you planning to introduce new meals or promotions? This is my first week, so I’m spending my time observing how things work at the moment, but my head is already full of possibilities for Camyoga in Cambridge as well as for the new site in Shelford. I’d like to introduce more raw food to the menu, such as avocado and cocoa mousse. Other ideas include a delivery service where customers will be able to phone before 10 am and have delicious and healthy salads, juices and lunches delivered. Also, a once a month supper club with a film or talk would be fun.

This all sounds very exciting Sam, thank you for taking your time to answer the questions! We are looking forward to tasting all of your new recipes.
